This painting is called "Warm Light on a Stormy Night."
I woke up yesterday morning with a picture of a stormy sea in my mind. It made me think how fragile our bodies are in comparison with the powerful forces of this world.
In this painting, I wanted to create a feeling of movement in the sky as well as the sea. They are meant to be seen as two turbulent forces working together, and the warm light of the lighthouse is all that is holding them back from their destructive ways.

My name is Leah Mortimer. I paint under the name Leah Page-Mortimer. I do this because I have fifteen years of paintings floating around out there that are signed Leah Page, my maiden name.

This is the introductory blog of my new series called, "A painting a week."
Like most creative people, I have spent years making works of art, and very little time thinking about how to sell them. I have decided to make my paintings available for sale online. I hope you will share this blog with anyone you know that is interested in art.

Visual art is a fascinating window into the mind and heart of another human being. A painting can express a common human emotion in a way that words never could.

Each week I will post this blog along with a painting of the week. I will try to write a little about my thought process and the feelings that generated that particular painting. Each painting will be on sale that week at my Etsy store. If the painting is not sold that week it will go onto my website where it may be viewed at a later date. This is a portrait I just finished. Unfortunately, it is not for sale. I did this painting as more of a sample of the style of portrait I am fond of doing. I love this picture because it is loosely drawn with a strong emphasis on light and dark contrast. This is a painting of my own wedding. It took me about four hours to complete.
